KITING TIPS – HOW TO RECONNECT YOUR CHICKEN LOOP

F-ONE has an amazing quick release system but if you use it, do you know how to reconnect it?

Well just in case you don’t – here is a quick explanation. This is also so if you are in the water or the land, you know what to do. Apologies for no images but they will be on the site shortly and we didn’t have the right conditions to get  the shots we wanted.

Once you have released the quick release your kite will go onto the safety line. If you did not pull it because you are in a dangerous situation, it can be re-engaged. PLEASE NOTE – I DO NOT RECOMMEND DOING THIS IF YOU ARE A BEGINNER.

  1. Pull the bar back to you using the safety  line.
  2. WHILST holding the safety line, reconnect the quick release.
  3. Make sure to check that no lines are wrapped around the bar before you do this.
  4. Now hold the kite with you left hand on the de-power line with it being low enough to be able to pull the red quick release back up. It is best to hold the safety line with the hand doing hte engaging – do not wrap the safety line around your fingers to do this.
  5. Using your right hand – feed the ring of the quick release back into the mechanism and use your right thumb to lock the quick release back in place. You will need to pull the red and white quick release and hold it up whilst you use your other hand.
  6. NOTE – it is designed not to re-engage by pushing the quick release mechanism ie the red and white piece that you push to release it, back down. You have you push the silver piece as shown in the picture.
  7. Let the safety line slip back towards the kite – so let the power of the kite pull the line. Be careful not to become entangled in the the lines.
  8. Let the safety line slip back towards the kite – so let the power of the kite pull the line. Be careful not to become entangled in the the lines.

If you are on land or if your kite is still in the sky, then..

Try get the kite bar back down to you and hold the kite with the chicken loop.If you hold the bar then you will be powering the kite and will battle to hold it whilst doing this exercise. Use your other hand to fly the kite to neutral or hold it in one position.

You need to ultimately hold the kite with the de-power line  above the quick release so you can perform the same task as described above.
