Umdloti is a further 7 km North from Umhlanga and offers similar conditions to Umhlanga supporting wind s from NNE through to SW. Both winds bring rocks into play and again if you have not kited this venue before check out the conditions on the low tide. To kite the NE - kite next to the rocks at the North end of the beach - just south of the tidal pool - this way the rocks are up wind of you and they offer excellent cover for the inside section which is generally pretty glassy, the point here also protects from the North to South current which generally kicks in after the first day of NE. Parking is righ next to the beach the beach is generally wide enough but does vary in width. To kite the SW - kite next to the rocks at the South end of the beach - again the rocks are up wind from you and offer some protection - but there are a few small clusters of rocks further downwind from this spot - and they are right in the shorebreak and on the beach so you need to watch out for this. Umdloti is one of the better spots for the SW and generally has excellent waves running off the point. THe beach is well set up with showers and good parking - there are good restaurants in the village and a bottlestore and SPurs take away - what more do you need. The Bush Tavern is highly recomended for a post kiting session ! Pictured below is the SW kiting spot ! |
